My Muse

I have lots of things to do with photography in my life. Studying for my MA in the subject and working as a freelance lifestyle and wedding photographer means that life can get kind of full. I've still not quite balanced the whole taking care of the house and doing all this while looking after an increasingly energetic little one. But that little one is the thing that makes me pick up my camera more than anything. Just like every Mother out there I'm feeling the time go by too fast.

So when I find photography too much I remember why it is something that is so important- it documents the most beautiful things in our lives. And he is the most beautiful thing in mine. 

Things Are Heating Up

I'm definitely busy these days that's for sure. Its a lot of fun, even if my brain can't always handle it.

I couldn't have done it all without Lucy the hands behind my addled brain. She has created some beautiful pieces for the mini sessions,  my favourite being the delicate lace crowns. Lucy is full of fantastic ideas and bursting with projects, and she's also a dab hand at pretty much anything she puts her mind to.

Below is the photo Lucy took of her beautiful creations and here is an example of how they look in practice on the lovely April.

I'm looking forward to future projects with the talented Lucy be it her ideas or my own. 

Barney's Bookshop Mini-Session

We had a blast running round after energetic Barney at the first mini session. He was sporting a tie made by Lucy Hesketh who is creating little accessories for the mini-sessions. We're working on lace crowns, pom pom frilled skirts, headbands and bow ties.

It was amazing how many lovely pictures we got of him in the session, especially with all his running around. It was with the help of a bit of bribery and his mum telling him story's that we got him to sit still for some of them which was lovely for me to be a part of (the story telling rather than the bribery). 

Barney really enjoyed seeing himself on the back of the camera and liked thinking of who was going to get to see the pictures (his Brother, his Grandad and his Aunties and Uncle). All in all it was a lot of fun and they got to spend some time looking at the lovely selection of children's books at Ebb & Flo and also relaxing in the den.

Beautiful Curls on Little Girls

There is something wonderful about little girls with long curly hair. I almost feel like I should tell them never to cut it because it won't ever be so soft again. 

I loved Hannah's complete impatience until she had permission to make funny faces, like she was getting through the serious ones just for the pleasure of the crazy ones. 

Baby Tyler

Colin and I just made the gruelling journey home from Essex today where we were visiting my sister and her little family. The drive was horrendous in this heatwave. Our car's passable air conditioning merely blew the warm air around which was a shame. And the desperately needed chocolate sustenance had to be axed due to its fast melt rate which was nothing short of devastating. Irregardless we made it home safely and Colin almost immediately took a shower.
I took some pictures of my darling chubby nephew and me and Colin acting as if he was ours. I thought I'd throw them up here because I just love looking at him and his chunky thighs and cannot comprehend how no one else would feel the same.

Sugar Town

Little girls and pastels were made for each other. Here are a couple of images from the Robinson girl's that made my sweet tooth ache and my ears ring to Nancy Sinatra.

New Tricks

I'm constantly experimenting and researching to try and not only be better at my photography but also to find a style I really love. The vintage style is wonderful but can sometimes be overdone. I've often wanted to incorporate a more vintage feel into my images, especially coming from using film at uni I found the sheen of digital photography far from my taste. There are many sides to digital photography that I feel I'm catching up on having not concentrated on it before. Editing itself was something I only had the basics in for a while and I found it hard to figure out how to get the results I knew I wanted, the style that I felt customers would want and I would love. 
I've been slowly creeping towards a style being constantly influenced along the way by many wonderful photographers (often very different in their styles and causing me confusion as to which direction I wanted to go in) and I feel that I'm getting a handle on the look I want
I like this faded colour pop and muted black and white style and would love to hear a bit of feedback.

And who better to show off my new editing than Tyler the sleepy baby. Beth has come for a visit and I'm getting to catch up with the very happy baby that is my nephew. He laughs at me a lot which I'm taking as a compliment. He is also fascinated with my parent's fish tank which is helpful when he starts to get restless. It almost like magic.
