Colin and I went for a much needed date to Manchester for the Christmas market. And of course for Teacup which offered me peace from my first world woes in the form of David Shrigley's Anti-Psychotic herbal Tea and freshly baked Madelines dipped in dark chocolate. It always amuses me when we go out for food as Colin's idea of good eating is a McDonalds or a sandwich from Asda but I have a passionate relationship with food. Even the description of good food makes me sublimely happy - just the words "honey roasted" make my mouth water.
Food differences aside, we enjoyed our wanderings around the stalls as our toes and noses slowly became numb. The cold weather just made it all feel more Christmassy.
Here's some cake I couldn't Justifying eating. It really was one of the most beautiful things I've seen
The thing I look forward to at the market the most are the wooden nativity houses. The giant one in the square always makes the place feel very magical, maybe its just the Brothers Grimm feeling these German constructions give me. I finally managed to convince Colin that we could justify buying one for ourselves. (he's a bit less affected by them than me, I gaze at them with almost the same wanting in my eye that I usually reserve for cake or rose lemonade).
The first of my own wooden houses. I will one day own a beautiful multi-storied specimen.
